2017 Version of the Scholarship Raffle Is Unveiled

The 2017 version of the TJLA Scholarship Raffle has been finalized. The TJLA will raffle off a Custom Stereo System made by Austin Breeding of Miami along with a South Texas Dove Hunting trip for four people. Other items in the raffle include an East Texas deer hunt for four people, an all-expense paid trip to the 2018 Belt Buckle Bonanza, a golf weekend for four in Crockett, Texas which will include lodging and greens fees at Spring Creek Country Club, and an invitation to the 2018 La Bella Vista Grape Stomping Party for four people which includes lodging and attendance at the party which has food and music for its guests as well as an old fashioned ‘Lucy Ricardo and Ethel Mertz’ grape stomping experience.

The raffle winners will be drawn on the Sunday of the 2017 Sullivan Supply South Fall Classic and the there will be two periods of time where TJLA members can accumulate two sets of bonus points towards this year’s awards program. One set of tickets may be sold and turned in between now and the 2017 Belt Buckle Bonanza is scheduled for June 28-July 2, 2017. The second set of points may be earned by selling these raffle tickets between September 1 and they must be turned in by the Sunday of the 2017 Sullivan Supply South Fall Classic in November.

“The TJLA Raffle allows members to accumulate Bonus Points towards their Top Ten Awards for this awards year. These point count on top of the number of rings of points that members can earn by accumulating points at Sanctioned TJLA Shows. The tickets cost $5.00 or five tickets for $20.00. This is a remake of the scholarship raffles that we did in 2013 and 2014,” Mrs. Cherie Carrabba Bright stated. “ I have always said that no matter what vocation a young person chooses, salesmanship is required in anything that you do. We are going back to the $5.00 Raffle ticket because as Tracy Beadle says, ‘Anyone can afford to buy a $5.00 raffle ticket.’”

“We hope that members will take advantage of this opportunity because it not only helps them earn a buckle or a jacket, but it also helps them develop valuable salesmanship skills that can serve them well as adults,” Mrs. Bright continued. “We found more parents were purchasing tickets when we had the $20.00 a ticket raffle, and we felt that reducing the price would help the member sell the tickets.”

“During this first Bonus Points Round, from now until July 2, a member who sells 20 tickets earns 60 Bonus points in any division of TJLA Top Ten Division of competition for the year. The only exception is showmanship. Points will not be awarded in any showmanship division. Each member can sell up to 100 tickets for a maximum total of 300 Bonus Points. Every member has the same opportunity and anyone who comes to hear my session on TJLA Points at CAMP will hear me say that you take advantage of every Bonus Point opportunity that you get. We have not set the number of points that a member will be able to earn in the second Bonus Point round from September 1 to November 26, but we will be announcing it later in the summer. Generally the second Bonus Point Round has had a few less points for selling tickets than the first one simply because we think that an important lesson for young people to learn is: ‘The early bird gets the worm.”

“When the tickets come into the office we will stamp them with an official TJLA stamp and put them in the raffle box. There are seven items being raffled off in this raffle, the custom stereo system and six trips including two deer hunting trips in 2018. The prizes are items that people will be anxious to win. The first ticket drawn gets first choice of the prizes, the second name pulled gets the second choice, and on down the line.”

Members who wish to get a head start on selling the raffle tickets may make copies of the tickets on the opposite page and start selling them. Any questions regarding the raffle may be addressed to Mrs. Bright at the TJLA offices.
